Nephroureterectomy is the surgical procedure to remove the kidney and ureter to treat renal pelvis and ureteral cancers.

Since you will no longer have use of the kidney, your doctor will be concerned about your overall kidney function. If you have already lost a kidney to another malignancy or a non-cancer event - stones, infections or trauma -or if your overall kidney function is impaired from a medical disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or glomerulonephritis, your doctor will make an effort to keep the remaining kidney and ureter on the side that is involved with the tumor.
